New JOB!
Yes, that’s right, I’ve found a new job. I start work on Tuesday for PSI in DC. They are a non-profit that offers medical aid to countries around the world. I’m really excited to be working for a company that is doing so much good. Yay!
here’s an excerpt from Never Sleep that I found helpful. thought I’d share.
List your dream jobs & don’t give up till you find one
Find these dream jobs in books, on the Net & in your mind
Send mail not email (physical pieces are harder to ignore)
Follow up your mail with a call
Calling people back is your job not theirs
Stalking someone is not expressing interest
Be nice to the people who answer phones
Never roll up to places unannounced
Do not get frustrated and settle on a crap job. that’s lame.
Design & promote yourself apart from others
p. 90 Never Sleep
This list has given me tangible places to start working towards getting a job. I think that it’s important to balance wanting to find your dream job with finding a good, start up job. At some point us young designers may have to lower our expectations just a bit (I don’t think I’ll be able to start by working for Apple or Pentagram). I suppose I’m saying that the dream job for now could just be a place that respects creatives, does good work that you can respect, and would be a fun environment to work in.
