Ok, last post of the day. I need to get going on the task of the day…

This is a nifty little travel jewelry organizer that I made for my sister, Rachel, for Christmas. My friend Bonnie recommended giving Rach a travel jewelry case, since she’s moving every two months for her PT clinicals. One of my clients gave me a jewelry organizer that she made, and I thought, hey why don’t I just make one? Only of course I had to make it better.

This thing is kinda perfect. It rolls up very thin and flat, so it’s easy to take anywhere. It has 3 bands that wrap around, then button it shut. When you open it up, you can use the same bands to hang it up on a hanger. Thus it can be kept hanging in a closet, very organized. There are two hooks to hang your necklaces in on the left, and two pockets on the right for earrings, bracelets & rings. Since the inside is felt, you can hang ear wires on any part of it. Like I said, pretty awesome. I think I’ll have to make one for myself sometime soon…

This little guy is easily my favorite craft to date. I knitted him up for my cousin’s little baby, Levi Cash. Since Cat’s been riding horses ever since I can remember & Dustin is a vet, I thought the little buckskin would be perfect. He’s super soft, and is all yarn and stuffing, so perfect for baby Levi. Trey thought he was pretty snuggly too. I just wish I would have followed through with my idea to sew Levi’s name on the horse’s hoof, Toy Story style. Oh well, next time.

While I’m at it, I may as well go ahead and post the things I made around Christmas too. I decided to make an advent garland. Just little felt pockets, strung together for the 24 days leading up to Christmas. I didn’t quite finish before we left on our big trip out West, so I just added them to our meagre tree decorations. Our first tree was little and cute (and still waiting to be taken to the dump. Yay for first married Christmas.

As I said, I’ve been pretty crafty lately. I found these lovely yarn wreaths on Etsy last week, and set out to make my own. I couldn’t find a wreath base, so I used pipe insulation instead. You can buy a 5’ section for less than $2, which will make 2 wreaths. The only frustrating part was adhering the two ends together to make a circle. As you can see from the last pic, the wreath is just a little wonky, but hey it adds character, right? If you want to try it, I’d recommend buying a roll of electrical tape & wrapping the ends several times. 

After I made the circle, I wrapped it with blond colored yarn, left over from a knitting project that I still need to post on here. When I finished wrapping, it was back to the ‘net to see what kind of flowers I could make. I found this great tutorial to make the red dahlia - I was stoked because that’s my favorite flower! It took a while to put together, but it turned out beautifully. I just added a few little rosettes to each side, then clipped the whole thing to the yarn wreath. Hope you like!
